Jarring Nevada Stats from Kids Count

Today the Annie E. Casey Foundation released their latest data figures in their annual Kids Count Report. You can look through all of the data here. It paints a brutal picture of the realities for Nevada students. Here is our summary of the data:

Children ages 3 to 5 not enrolled in nursery school, preschool or kindergarten

(Nevada is the lowest in the country with 54%)

Teens ages 16 to 19 not in school and not high school graduates

(Nevada is at 7% and tied for 42nd)

Teens ages 16 to 19 not attending school and not working

(Nevada is last in the country at 13%)

Persons age 18 to 24 not attending school, not working, and no degree beyond high school

(Nevada is 39th at 19%)

High school students not graduating on time

(Nevada is the worst in the country at 42%)

Educational attainment of population ages 25 to 34

(Nevada is the last in the country at 17% without a high school diploma)

Young adults ages 18 to 24 enrolled in or completed college

(Nevada is 49th in the country with 38% of the population)

High school graduates ages 25 to 29 who have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher

(Nevada is the last in the country with only 20% of the population)

4th grade reading achievement levels

(Nevada is tied for 46th with 75% of students reading below proficient levels)

85% of students in Title I Schools; 67% in non-Title I Schools

84% eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch (FRL); 62% not eligible for FRL

85% of Black students; 83 % of Latino students; 64% of White Students
